BLACKPINK releases a new album
BLACKPINK will release their first Korean studio album, Blackpink: the album, on October 2, 2020. The comeback of the K-pop group is divided into three different parts. On June 26, 2020, they released their single “How You Like That”, the first part of their comeback. The song reached number 1 on iTunes in the US and reached 86.3 million views on YouTube within the first 24 hours.
“This single is an intense hip-hop song, but at the same time retains the original color and personality of BLACKPINK. The message speaks for itself [how] “In any given situation, we will not lose confidence and we will grow, no matter what the circumstances,” BLACKPINK told British Vogue.
The K-pop group told TIME, “We believe this song contains the message that we need to persevere and fight even in the darkest times. We want everyone to find strength through our music.”
BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez will collaborate
In July 2020, BLACKPINK announced that there would be a second pre-release single leading up to their album. The new single would be the second part of her comeback and would also feature a collaboration with another artist.
A teaser poster showed Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, Lisa, and a question mark plaguing the surprising collaboration, and the poster did not indicate the title of the track or the release date. YG Entertainment later announced that Gomez was the surprise feature, and the song “Ice Cream” would be released at midnight EST and 1pm KST on August 28th.
While building the hype for the much-anticipated song, a music video teaser was released on August 26th. The teaser adds to the suspense even more and points to the fun and summery tone of the song without giving away any of the actual music.

After the teaser was posted, fans of BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez discussed the teaser on social media. On Twitter, “selena” and “#IceCreamMVTeaser” trends as fans talk about the upcoming single. In a Reddit thread, fans expressed how excited they are for the collaboration.
“That’s definitely a plague, because I have no idea what the song will be about this haha, the ‘ice’ part doesn’t sound quite like the pinkest concept under the sun, but the image definitely goes in that direction, so it will undoubtedly be more of a bubblegum concept (not that there was much reason to doubt it), ”wrote a Reddit user.
