Bill Gates, the founder of MicroSFT, is no longer a bitcoin bear. He has now taken a neutral stance on Bitcoin as an investment. However, as an innovation, he says that cryptocurrency is one that the world would be better off without, as it allows certain criminal activities.
Bill Gates changes his mind about Bitcoin
Bill Gates talked about bitcoin and cryptocurrency in two separate interviews on Thursday. A CNBC Was accompanied by where he was asked what he thought of Bitcoin “in the context of climate change, looking at how Bitcoin takes up huge amounts of energy in digital mines.” Gates gave a simple answer:
I don’t have bitcoin. I am not short bitcoin. Therefore, I have taken a neutral approach.
Gates continued, “Bitcoin can only go up and down depending on the mania or whatever the point of view, and I have no way of predicting how it will progress.”
The founder of MicroSFT added: “I think the move to more digital form and lower transaction costs is what the Gates Foundation does in developing countries. But, we do that so you can do the opposite of transactions so we have a full view of who is doing what. It’s not about tax evasion or illegal activities. ”
Gates has never been a fan of Bitcoin. In an interview with CNBC in 2018, he, Bernshire Hathaway CEO Wern Run Buffett, and Vice Chairman Charlie Munger talked about Bitcoin being useless.
“As an asset class, you are not producing anything and so you should not expect it. It’s a kind of pure ‘big flower theory’ kind of investment, ’Gates commented. “If there was an easy way to do it I would cut it short.” BTC was trading at around 9,300 that day.
