Billie Eilish says to ‘vote like our lives depend on it’ in DNC’s performance

Eilish, 18, performed ‘My Future’ for the first time at the convention Wednesday night. But before she sang “Because I’m in love with my future / Can’t wait to meet her”, she gave a call to action.

“Donald Trump is destroying our country and everything we care about. We need leaders who will solve problems such as climate change and Covid, not deny it. Leaders who will fight systemic racism and inequality, and that starts by voting for one who understands how much is at stake, someone who builds a team that shares our values, “said Eilish. “It starts with voting against Donald Trump and for Joe Biden.”

Former Vice President Biden was formally nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate at the convention on Tuesday night. Kamala Harris officially became his running mate on Wednesday, making him the first Black woman to be nominated a president of a major party. Biden will challenge Trump in the November 3 presidential election.

Eilish called for Americans to show up on that day in support of Biden.

“Silence is not an option and we cannot put it off,” she said. “We all have to vote like our lives and the world depends on it because they do. The only way to be sure of the future is to make it our own.”

Eilish was one of many planned musical artists at this year’s convention, including John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, The Chicks, Leon Bridges, Billy Porter, Maggie Rogers, Prince Royce and Stephen Stills.
