Billie Eilish released a Studio Ghibli-esque music video for her song, ‘my future’

Pop superstar Billie Eilish is already known for her experimental music videos. The latter, for her new single “my future”, is no exception.

In the new video, Eilish changes the dark and grim atmosphere of most of her videos to jump into an animated world. The video begins with an animated Eilish sitting in a forest during a rain storm and looking at the moon. Rain collects in pools and leaves, and the atmosphere is clearly inspired by Studio Ghibli movies like Princess Mononoke.

As the song continues, he wanders through the woods, cleaning the dark clouds and rain with his presence and causing new life to sprout from the ground. The newly formed roots and vines wrap around Eilish, lifting it up into the sky and into the recently green and beautiful forest. The entire video is played as a cross between My neighbor Totoro and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. It’s beautiful and hopeful, but not without a bit of the deep, melancholic sadness that makes Ghibli and director Hayao Miyazaki’s movies great.

While this is Eilish’s second animated music video, it is the first to acquire a lighter, healthier tone. Her last animated video was for the song “You Should See Me In A Crown,” where she teamed up with Takeshi Murakami to create a video with an apocalyptic vibe that ends with animated Billie turning into a giant monster … far from the vision of ” my future “of Spring Studio-Ghibli style.
