As the first major sports concern to attempt a comeback this year, Major League Baseball is testing a variety of strategies to simulate the Old World, prior to the baseball experience, some more terribly dystopian than others. But the credit is due – it’s hard to beat Bill Murray yelling “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” to Cubs fans as they battle a giant teddy bear when it comes to socially distant stretches of the seventh inning.

As he was captured by the Marquee Sports Center, Murray serenaded viewers of tonight’s opening day Cubs game against the Brewers with the baseball classic, proving that a) there is apparently nothing that can mitigate the Murray’s enthusiasm for his hometown team, and b) there’s not a damn thing wrong with Bill Murray’s lungs, either.

The Cubs eventually won the game 0-3, which we must assume must have made Murray and his teammate ursine happy. The MLB has just, courtesy of COVID-19, embarked on a shorter 60-game season with more asterisks attached than a high-footnote novel. But if Murray is a reference, then some very strange baseball is apparently much better than nothing when it comes to true fans.
