Buffett was born on August 30, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the only son of Laila and Howard Buffett. Howard was a U.S. congressman.

Buffett was sworn in in 2010 to testify before the Financial Crisis Commission. A bipartisan committee was formed by Congress to look into the causes of the financial crisis.
President Barack Obama awarded the President’s Medal of Freedom Buffett to Buffett in 2011, Obama said. “Today we recognize Warren Buffett as one of the richest men in the world, but also one of the most admired and respected,” Obama said. “Fed up with financial weakness, he has allegedly demanded value, put his weight behind companies with promise and shown that integrity is not just a good feature – it’s good for business.”
Buffett was raised by journalists and shareholders during the 2011 annual shareholders’ meeting at Barfshire Hathaway.

Buffett and his second wife, Astrid, arrived at the White House in 2012 for a state dinner honoring British Prime Minister David Cameron. In the second month, Buffett confirmed that he had been diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer. He underwent radiation treatment and told Berkshire Hathaway shareholders that cancer was “not dangerous for remote life.”
