Biden criticizes Trump for promoting false COVID-19 claims of ‘crazy woman’

Joe Biden urged President Donald Trump on Wednesday to promote on Twitter the dubious claims of Dr. Stella Immanuel, the Houston physician who claims to have effectively treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients with hydroxychloroquine, whom the alleged Democratic presidential nominee called a “crazy woman”. “

In a virtual event with the United Action FundUS, a nonprofit organization that advocates for Latino political power, Biden was asked to respond to Trump, who repeatedly lobbied for public schools to reopen this fall without implementing effective measures. to keep teachers and students safe.

Biden responded that Trump should “stop tweeting and start doing something about it, damn it” and “stop talking about this crazy woman he talked about last night, which is an absolute disgrace.”

Biden’s excavation appeared to be in reference to Immanuel, whom Trump called on Tuesday night “very impressive” and a “significant voice.”

Trump retweeted a video clip Tuesday that shows Immanuel saying, without providing any evidence, at an event outside the US Capitol that the coronavirus could be cured and that widely accepted efforts to curb its spread were unnecessary and dangerous.

In the video, Immanuel, a licensed pediatrician from Houston, claims to have effectively treated 350 patients with hydroxychloroquine COVID-19 outside of his medical clinic, but declined to provide data. Also, in the video, he refers to doctors who refused to treat patients with hydroxychloroquine as “good Nazis” and “fake doctors,” calling the published research “false science.”

Soon after, Twitter removed the tweet and replaced it with a gray box that says, “This Tweet is no longer available.” Later Tuesday, Twitter said, “Tweets with the video violate our COVID-19 disinformation policy.”

The FDA cautioned against the use of hydroxychloroquine, a drug commonly used to treat malaria, to treat COVID-19, citing serious health effects and the conclusions of randomized clinical trials that have shown little benefit from the treatment. Trump said in May that he was taking hydroxychloroquine to avoid contracting the virus, and he was adamant in his comments on the drug at a press conference later Tuesday, and told reporters that “I believe in him.”

Meanwhile, Biden, in his virtual event on Wednesday, also touted his recently launched plan to combat racial inequality in the United States by assisting small minority business owners and making housing more affordable for families of color. .

“The future of the United States,” said Biden, “depends on the full, complete and complete integration, acceptance, and embrace of the Latino community.”

His event with UnidosUS, which approved his presidential candidacy on Wednesday, came when his campaign launched another ad in Spanish that will play in numerous television markets and across the digital world in the states of Florida and Arizona.
