Few could have predicted how successful Nintendo’s hybrid console would be before launch in March 2017. Over the past decade or so, external publishers tended to overlook Nintendo’s hardware for a variety of reasons, but Switch has attracted a lot of the world’s top developers turn to Nintendo hardware, some for the first time in long time.
Despite its relative lack of growling compared to the more powerful home consoles, the Switch has hosted a series of incredibly ambitious and impressive ports, and the list below is our pick of the best. Includes not only technical wonders, but also a couple of retro titles that shine brighter on Switch by receiving the 5-star restoration treatment.
So, let’s take a look–in no particular order–in best Switch ports since console launched.

Not the first awesome Switch port that came to mind, huh? We started with this one to highlight what the M2 port specialists did a good job with SEGA’s classic arcade racer. Virtua Racing It is by far the most impressive Sega Ages release to date, offering an amazing remaster that not only plays the arcade game, but actively improves its resolution and frame rate. Newcomers should note that it still only offers three tracks and one car, but those willing to accept this rather sparse offer will find that the new 20-lap Grand Prix mode and online leaderboards give it a very longevity boost. necessary. It is not for everyone, then, but those who “understand” will adore it.

Alien: isolation is a survival horror masterpiece and one of the best horror video games ever released. It’s a stressful affair: slow, methodical cat-and-mouse gameplay against a brilliantly clever recreation of one of cinema’s most infamous assassins, but if you’re up for the task, you’ll find one of the most satisfying gaming experiences in the genre; A brilliant and beautiful tribute to one of the best science fiction movies of all time. Feral Interactive, a team we have talked to about porting this and another game that will appear later in the list, did a stellar job with this Switch port and the excellent motion controls and inclusion of all previously released DLC are only going to sweeten the deal. This is essential for fans of survival horror.

As this list attests, Switch doesn’t fall short with games that have already bowed, or several, on other hardware, but Skyrim It might be the one that deserves another look from both rugged Elder Scrolls adventurers and absolute beginners alike. Despite its age, with countless small cracks in its already fractured façade, it still offers a palpable sense of space that few games before or after have achieved. May their dancing northern lights never fade.

BioShock: the collection It stands out as another fantastic port in the growing Switch library, combining three great games and all of their DLCs into one compelling package. Stable performance, fascinating storytelling, fun gameplay, and a wealth of content make this an easy recommendation, even if these releases show their age from time to time. If you’re looking for a good single player shooter to pick up your Switch then look no further, it’s hard to go wrong here.

What we have here is a perfect port of a game that absolutely deserves all the praise it has received. From beginning to end Ori and the blind forest It is a real joy to play. Challenging but never feel unfair or discouraging, and almost relaxing to control. The fascinating artistic style and musical score are the icing on the cake that makes the player really care about the protagonist and want to keep playing until the conclusion of the game. It was a bit surprising to see this game make it to the Nintendo Switch, but we’re glad it did. An unmissable experience.

While Wolfenstein IIGraphics degradation is hard to miss, that doesn’t detract from the fact that this is one of the best single-player FPS experiences on the console. The lack of a multiplayer mode (versions on other consoles didn’t have one either, so don’t worry about a short change) could be appreciated, but with its brilliantly written storyline and intense action, not even the great 2017 CONDEMN The port can withstand BJ’s last war against the Reich. Given the technical limitations of the console, we are fortunate to have access to this remarkable story on the Nintendo handheld.
Editor: Bethesda Softworks / / Developer: Panic button
CONDEMN It is one of the best first person shooter games we have ever played, an amazing game, flawed and all, and it is certainly one of the best in its class on Switch. There is a certain magical quality to having a game is well on the go. Its brilliant campaign is reason enough to pick it up, but DOOM’s multiplayer mode was surprisingly good, too, with little arenas making matches recall the happy days of first-person shooters when Unreal tournament Supreme reign. While it may not be as polished as other formats, having DOOM in a portable form is a revelation, and developer Panic Button, who we sat down with for a while to discuss various games on this list, deserves high praise for porting about id The classic title of the software is so brilliant.
Editor: Zenimax Media / / Developer: Nervous software
And while we’re at it, how about arguably the best way to play the original? CONDEMN on the console? After launching with some technical issues, subsequent updates improved things to the point where this ranks alongside the best DOOM versions available anywhere. Purists may suggest that it should only be played on a PC with a keyboard, but after a couple of minutes with this exquisite port, you will feel it was done for a gamepad. If you are looking to kill hordes of Hellspawn at home or on the move, there really is no better way.
Editor: Bandai Namco / / Developer: Of software
While we had to wait a bit longer than those who play on PS4 and Xbox One, the wait was worth it. Dark Souls: Remastered is a faithful remaster of a touchstone in video game design that enhances overall performance while retaining all the character traits that made the original a memorable experience. While no less forgiving, and its menus a bit complicated, this sleek version of the Nintendo Switch offers the only way to experience Lordran’s ultra challenging odyssey in true portable form. Praise the sun, in fact.
Editor: Ninja Theory / / Developer: Ninja Theory
To have Hellblade: Senua’s sacrifice on Switch in this form is a blessing that you should not miss. The game itself is a psychological sensory experience that we highly recommend, but the fact that it has been translated to Switch in such a comprehensive way is the real surprise here. It doesn’t feel like a downgrade at all – it stands proudly alongside the other ‘miracle’ ports in the system, possibly outperforming them in some way. It’s a remarkable effort and a challenge for other developers who insist that Switch couldn’t handle their games. It seems that anything is possible, and we take our hats off to QLOC – bravo.
