Bellator has best light heavyweights on planet

UNCASVILLE, Conn. Bellator President Scott Coker feels good about his lightweight heavyweight division of his promotion.

Coker is confident that Bellator now has the best weight class of 205 pounds in the world, after UFC champion Jon Jones decided to loosen his belt and go to heavyweight earlier this week.

With arguably one of the greatest fighters of all time away from the UFC light heavyweight division, Coker believes his roster of fighters is better than any organization.

“Listen, with Jon Jones after heavyweight, I think we have the best weight class of 205 pounds on the planet with Bader. Gegard wants to go up, we have (Lyoto) Machida, and we now have Corey Anderson,” Coker told MMA Junkie on Thursday. “We have a bunch of killers in that weight class. For me, we have a great roster of fights for him (Corey Anderson) – and even Phil Davis. I mean, we’ll be able to bring some great fights together, and I’m excited about that division. ”

Bellator has many notable names in its light heavyweight division. Fighters such as Ryan Bader, Phil Davis, Lyoto Machida, Gegard Mousasi, Liam McGeary, Vadim Nemkov, and Raphael Carvalho are some of the names on the roster.

But besides those names, Bellator recently signed former UFC candidate Corey Anderson. Coker is excited about the latest Bellator member.

‘I had to meet him. I had breakfast with him and DC (Daniel Cormier) this morning like two weeks ago, and he is training with DC, ”said Coker. “DC said, ‘Hey, you need to see this kid.’

‘At the same time, Rich and Mike (Bellator matchmakers) said,’ Hey, we really need to sign him. He is a top four or five man in the world. He would be a great addition to our 205 division. ‘”
