Basketball player Michael Ojo died at 27 after cooperating during training


The basketball community mourns the death of athlete Michael Ojo.

According to a statement from his former basketball team the Red Star Belgrade, the 27-year-old died on Friday, August 7th. “Michael Ojo, center of Crvena zvezda Basketball Club died earlier today in Belgrade. We are lost for words, it’s just devastating,” the club shared on Twitter. “Rest in peace, Gentle Giant.”

Several outlets reported that the former Florida State University center collapsed during an individual training session in Belgrade, Serbia. He was later taken to hospital after treatment but could not be readmitted by doctors.

His cause of death is pending.

Tribute comes in for the athlete, who was loved by fans all over the world.

His alma mater, Florida State University, confirmed the news through the team Twitter. “We want to express our deepest sympathy to Michael’s family, friends and former teammates,” the statement read.
