Barr Warns of Chinese Efforts to Dominate Industries, Calls Hollywood Tech Giants to Push

Attorney General Bill Barr issued a dire warning to the United States and the world on Thursday regarding what he said could be “the most important issue for our nation and the world in the 21st century”: the global ambitions of the Communist Party Chinese.

Analyzing sectors, including the tech, pharmaceutical, and entertainment industries, Barr described how the Chinese government is “engaged in an economic blitz” aimed at dominating the global economy and replacing the US as the world’s leading global superpower.

“The CCP launched an orchestrated campaign, through all its tentacles in the Chinese government and society, to exploit the opening of our institutions to destroy them,” Barr said during a speech at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.

To achieve its goals, Barr said, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is using “a wide range of predatory and often illegal tactics” including currency manipulation, intellectual property theft, cyber attacks and espionage.

Barr said the Chinese Communist Party’s “Made in China 2025” initiative “represents a real threat to the technological leadership of the United States,” as China seeks to dominate a number of high-tech industries.

The attorney general further cautioned that the United States is already “dangerously dependent” in certain areas, such as rare earth materials used in a wide variety of technological devices and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

“As one Defense Health Agency official noted, if China decides to limit or restrict the delivery of API to the United States, it could lead to a severe shortage of pharmaceuticals for domestic and military uses,” Barr said.

At the same time, Barr said, China “has consistently taken advantage of American companies” by placing obstacles in the healthcare market that range from price limitations to counterfeiting. He mentioned that Chinese citizens working in American pharmaceutical companies have been caught stealing secrets from both the United States and China.

“[T]The highest ambition of China’s rulers is not to trade with the United States, “Barr said.” It is to attack the United States. “

Barr regretted that too many American companies have complied with Chinese demands to seek short-term profit.

“Unfortunately, the examples of American businesses that bow to Beijing are legion,” Barr said, noting how Hollywood “regularly censors its own films to appease the Chinese Communist Party.” Giving examples including the films “World War Z” and “Doctor Strange”, Barr noted how studios have altered key components of the films so as not to offend the Chinese government, which would risk closing the films to over a thousand millions of people that make up the Chinese market.

“Chinese government censors don’t need to say a word, because Hollywood is doing its job for them,” Barr said. “This is a massive propaganda coup for the Chinese Communist Party.”

Barr issued a dire warning to companies that may believe it is in their best interest to work with China: “If you are an American business leader, appeasing the PRC can bring short-term rewards. But in the end, the goal of the PRC is to replace him. “
