Bar withdraws beer from sale after customer claims bottle looks like a KKK bell

This may not be the best design for a bottle.

A bar in Connecticut pulled a beer from its line after customers complained that the bottle looked like a Ku Klux Klan bell. According to the beer brewer, however, the bottle was designed to denounce racism.

In a post that was shared on Facebook on Saturday, a woman explained how she sold the beer to her husband, a black man, without giving notice of the bottle’s design.

“This is the $ 40 bottle of beer that was promoted and presented to my black husband and his white friend tonight at World of Beer. After researching it at home, we discovered that it was ‘created to denounce racism … promote open-mindedness … deliberately packaged in paper to denounce organizations like the KKK,’ “the publication reads.

“None of this was explained to Damion or his friend. This KKK bottle was brought without notice about his appearance. At best, the server was ignorant, insensitive and deaf. At worst …”

The Yellow Belly beer is made by the Swedish brewery Omnipollo and the Buxton Brewery in the United Kingdom, reports the Hartford Courant.

On the Omnipollo website, beer is described as “a collaborative effort together with our good friends – and world-class brewers – at Buxton Brewery (UK). Yellow belly: a person who has no courage, strength or nerves ; a coward. For us, one of the most cowardly actions is to act anonymously, hiding behind a group. A significant feature of institutionalized racism. This beer is brewed to celebrate everything new, open and progressive. A butter cookie of robust peanuts without cookies, butter or nuts. Try, enjoy and do not prejudge yourself. “

World of Beer responded to the woman’s Facebook post, stating that Yellow Belly has been taken “out of a later sale.”

“Please accept our apologies for the lapse of service judgment. While we cannot speak for the brewer’s intent, the visual has no place in our establishment. We appreciate you informing us and we appreciate the opportunity for discussion.” , commented a World of Beer official.
