“Thank you for doing everything possible every day … to be there for those who need your help,” the head of state emphasized. The SPÖ is thinking of supporting him in the next presidential elections.
Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen has posted a video on his Facebook page thanking doctors and nurses in hospitals and especially in intensive care units. “Thank you for doing everything day after day, for weeks and months with a lot of solidarity and the highest level of commitment to be there for those who need your help,” said the head of state in the short video.
I would like to thank “all the doctors, intensive care nurses and all the assistants in the intensive care units in Austria”.
Even in normal times, working in the helping professions in hospitals is “a real challenge. Now, in times of Covid 19, much, much more ”, emphasized Van der Bellen. The constant effort is great, like the emotional charge, I expected a “different, better year 2021”.
Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) also thanked the doctors and nurses in a video posted on Instagram and Facebook. These “would do a particularly good job these days.” The pressure is enormous, with many Covid patients. “I know that wearing protective clothing in particular is enormous pressure and an enormous additional burden,” Anschober said.
SPÖ playing with re-evaluation support
Meanwhile, the second president of the National Council, Doris Bures (SPÖ), announced that the SPÖ could resign its own candidate in the next federal presidential election in 2022 and support incumbent Alexander Van der Bellen. According to a preliminary report from the ATV television channel on Saturday, Bures responded to “ATV Aktuell” to a corresponding question: “I believe that the Social Democracy, if it runs again, will support Alexander Van der Bellen.”
Bures has been repeatedly considered a possible candidate for the post of head of state. The 76-year-old van der Bellen, on the other hand, has thus far kept a low profile about one more career.
