The federal government and state governors held a video conference Monday to discuss further crisis management by the crown after Friday’s plan had at least been scrapped in mid-January. The federal states will now proceed differently. Upper Austria will postpone mass testing from January 15-17 until the current general end of the lockdown on January 22-24. Governor Thomas Stelzer (VP) confirmed this to OÖNachrichten. This is much more sensible than in the middle of the lock, because during this time the contacts are limited anyway.
All those who have already registered by mid-January will be notified, Stelzer announced. Around 12,500 people have registered for the “free trial” originally planned, for which there is no legal basis after the opposition was rejected.
For the time after that, Stelzer has announced an equally free “permanent trial offer”, which should be much higher than the current “service offer” at five locations. This will also be necessary, because according to the federal government there should very well be a “freestyle” system after the shutdown, not for a week, as originally planned for mid-January, but for the long term. Anyone who wants to go to an inn or a concert will need proof.
Stelzer has already discussed the plans for Upper Austria with the directors of the City Association (Klaus Luger, SP) and the Gemendebund (Johann Hingsamer, VP). “It makes much more sense to continually offer free trials in various municipalities and cities in Upper Austria from January 25 than to mobilize the entire population every 3 weeks,” Luger said in an initial reaction.
