In memory of the devastating fire at Notre-Dame exactly a year ago, the cathedral bell rang on Wednesday night in Paris. The ringing of the bells was the only ceremony to commemorate the catastrophe, in which large parts of the world-famous building had been destroyed.

On April 15 of last year a fire broke out in the framework of the cathedral ceiling during restoration work. Large parts of the roof and the needle collapsed. The possible cause of the fire is a short circuit or a carelessly thrown cigarette.

Immediately after the fire, French President Emmanuel Macron had promised the French to rebuild the church by the summer of 2024. The president confirmed this promise on Wednesday.
