The installation staff of the new Danube bridge cannot enter the country

The complicated planning and construction history of the Neue Donaubrücke is once again a richer chapter: the steel parts are ready at the pre-assembly site, but still no staff for welding and assembly. Because workers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia cannot enter Austria without a negative COVID-19 certificate, which mixes up plans for construction work.

To the annoyance of Deputy Mayor Markus Hein (FP): “We clarified everything last week so that the entry can be carried out without obstacles. Now, however, the rules for entry requirements have changed from one day to the next. ” To avoid further delays, workers should be evaluated as soon as possible and, if possible, start work next Monday.

It is currently difficult to assess what these difficulties mean with respect to the entry of personnel for the manufacturing date, says Hein: “From today’s perspective, however, I already assume that the contractually agreed schedule will be met and that the bridge will be completed by late October 2021. ” Not least because the production of steel parts in the three plants was not interrupted. However, the vice mayor expects construction work to be completed before school begins in 2021 as scheduled.
