Peter Gerdol, director of the FIS Ladies Race: “The exclusion of the Swedish team had nothing to do with the FIS.”
In recent days, the FIS had to defend itself from not a few attacks, which is why the entire Swedish women’s team was excluded from the Ski World Cup races in Levi, although all the runners tested negative for Covid-19 and only head coach Christian Thoma had a positive result. He had not traveled to Finland with the team, but with the national team coach, Lars Melin. Thoma was immediately quarantined and had no further contact with the team.
In the ORF interview, the director of the FIS women’s race, Peter Gerdol, commented on the exclusion of the Swedish team and made it clear that it was not the FIS but the Finnish authorities who made this decision.
Peter Gerdol: “Something like this can happen again this season, although I don’t expect it. But that has nothing to do with the FIS. The Finnish health authorities have made this decision. We said that for months, the local authorities have the last word. We are not doctors or specialists, and we must and will accept these decisions of the health authorities at all race venues. “
