Soldier found dead in barracks after party night videos

According to media reports, a soldier who participated in a night out at the Güssing barracks was found dead on Friday. Numerous videos of the party circulated on the Internet and the armed forces had initiated disciplinary proceedings.

It was a celebration with obscene scenes, of which numerous videos were shared on social networks. Now, the party night at the Güssing barracks has come to a tragic end for one of the 35 soldiers involved: the 25-year-old was found dead in Carinthia, according to the “Kronen Zeitung” online edition.

The dead man is one of those young cadre candidates who, along with 34 of his colleagues, celebrated his qualification as a professional soldier at the Güssing Barracks in Burgenland in late January despite the closures. The party was illegal due to Covid-19 measures, and then explicit videos were released. The videos were distributed within the military via WhatsApp and later shared on social media.

Once this fact was known, a disciplinary process was initiated against all those involved and four batches were released. Armed Forces spokesman Michael Bauer spoke on Twitter of “the most disgusting thing I had to see in my 35 years of service in the military.” Military Commander Gernot Gasser described the incident as “embarrassing” and “humanly disappointing”.

There is currently nothing to indicate third party debt. The man probably first announced the act to his partner and left him a goodbye letter.
