Interior Minister Nehammer wants to control the stricter entry regulations for Christmas with hundreds of additional officials.

To curb the further spread of COVID-19 in Austria, the Federal Council approved a new ordinance of the Ministry of Health on December 17, 2020 on entry into Austria in relation to containment of SARS-CoV-2. “As in recent months, the Austrian police continue to support the health authorities through their requests for entry controls from the health authorities,” said Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP).

218 additional officers

To have enough law enforcement officers available over the Christmas holidays, 218 employees completed their supplementary training for foreigners and border police at the St. Pölten training center on December 17. These employees are used primarily for border operations. “This ensures that security in Austria is also guaranteed at the highest level during the Christmas holidays,” Nehammer continues.

In addition, employees of the Puma Immigration and Border Police Unit are available. If this is not enough, state police departments can also call on district forces. The basic services of the security police will not be affected, promises the Interior Ministry.
