Ryoyu Kobayashi won the first competition at the men’s World Cup in Zakopane on Saturday. The Japanese prevailed just ahead of the Polish Andrzej Stekala (+ 0.3) and the Norwegian Marius Lindvik and celebrated his first victory since December 2019. The best Austrian was Stefan Kraft in 10th place. Halvor Egner Granerud, who was in the lead at the break, was only seventh, so the Norwegian’s series was broken after four wins.
Philipp Aschenwald at 13th and Michael Hayböck at 25th were the only ones from an ÖSV quintet involved in the decision with an improvement. Jan Hörl finished 21st, Ulrich Wohlgenannt dropped from twelfth intermediate place to 29th. Thomas Lackner had missed qualifying for the second round as 42, Daniel Huber had been disqualified in material control.
On Sunday (11.00 am, live on ORF1 and on live broadcast) another individual competition is on the program in Zakopane. It is the third last competition before the Nordic World Championships in Oberstdorf.
