Vienna (OTS) On the New Year’s Eve riots at Reumannplatz and the various broadcasts, including from the President of the Favoriten district, the Vienna Police Chief Dr. Gerhard Pürstl firmly:
Our task is to maintain security, peace and order in Vienna. We fulfill our obligation to provide a sufficient number of law enforcement officers throughout the day, day and night. The rapid intervention of the police after the New Year’s Eve incidents, as well as after the June 2020 riots, proves the correspondence of this task.
The question of permanent posts at Favoriten is a detail that is decided year after year for each Vienna district based on its workload, retirement age and number of executive officers dispatched from the Vienna Police College. All police units of the Vienna State Police Directorate, from the traffic department to the reserve unit and the Vienna emergency group alarm department WEGA, are deployed in Favoriten to compensate for staff downtime respective.
We will continue to ensure the necessary police presence in Favoriten regardless of a permanent position and assessing the current situation professionally and without emotion after analyzing the police security situation. All who can make a contribution are cordially invited.
“I will therefore invite representatives of the city of Vienna and of course the President of the Favoriten district, as well as representatives of interest groups and NGOs working in Favoriten to a security summit,” said Gerhard Pürstl.
“Security in a modern and contemporary understanding must be considered comprehensively in order to guarantee it in the long term,” said the president of the Vienna police.
