secondischofshofen (dpa) – Before the big showdown in the final of the Four Hills Tournament, the favorites were upset again.
“He’s very lucky,” Dawid Kubacki said of his Polish teammate Kamil Stoch after qualifying. “I know I’m always lucky, what should I do?” The exceptional ski jumper Stoch replied and laughed.
Last year’s winner Kubacki and Stoch, who has already won the tour twice, get along very well. So good that Kubacki said: It doesn’t matter who wins. The most important thing is that a Polish jumper is in front. “
The chances of this happening are very good. Three-time Olympic champion Stoch has a fairly comfortable lead ahead of Wednesday’s last competition in Bischofshofen (4.45pm / ZDF and Eurosport), and his first pursuer is his teammate Kubacki. Behind them is the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud, followed by the German duo Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler.
Oberstdorf winner Geiger, who lost his chances of winning due to a mistake in Innsbruck on Sunday, is awaiting Stoch’s third hit on the tour. “If he does a smart competition, nobody can catch him,” said the 27-year-old. He himself is almost 14 meters behind Stoch.
For him and his teammate Eisenbichler, it’s about getting the most out of jumping. Maybe in some way they can push the top trio to the top so that at least a podium spot is possible.
In qualifying, however, it didn’t seem like it at first: while the 33-year-old Stoch convinced the winner, Granerud the third and Kubacki the sixth, Geiger only landed in 25th place. “I know the hill is not that easy, but I can break it, “he said anyway.
Eisenbichler ranked eighth in the standings. The excited jumper, who is called “Eisei” on the team, is currently a bit lacking in ease. “Right now it’s a bit like this: I’m looking for the best form,” said the 29-year-old. And if I search, I will never find her. I have to let her come to me. ”The Four Hills Tournament final would be a good time for that.
