Half of all active corona cases in Austria are now in Vienna. Specifically, 4,538 of the 8,590 tested positive in Vienna were registered on Monday.
The number of patients who had to be hospitalized for corona treatment shows how dramatic the situation is in Vienna now. Currently, 225 Corona beds are occupied in the federal capital. This surpassed the previous high from the end of March, the Standard reports. At that time, 213 crown patients were hospitalized.
Specifically, 177 beds are currently occupied in normal rooms, plus 48 beds in intensive care and surveillance rooms.
Enough hospital beds available
However, Vienna is still a long way from a bottleneck in hospital beds. According to the office of Councilor for Health Peter Hacker, there are currently 247 beds available in the intensive care and surveillance rooms. A total of about 16 percent are currently employed in this area. In addition, there are currently 2,214 beds available in the normal room, reports Standard.
Overall, the number of Covid-19 patients treated at the Austrian hospital rose again to more than 450 on Monday. In a 24-hour comparison, there were 23 additional hospitalizations. Of the 469 infected people in hospitals, 88 were treated in intensive care units, four more than the previous day. There were also three other deaths, and thus 790 people who have died with the coronavirus so far. 556 new infections were compared with 463 recovered in one day (at 9:30 am).

For those actively infected, there has been an increase from 90 to 8,590 cases since Sunday morning. 4,538 of them concerned Vienna, 1,196 Lower Austria, 700 Upper Austria and 602 Styria. 552 active cases were reported in Tyrol, 444 in Vorarlberg, 279 in Salzburg, 145 in Burgenland and 134 in Carinthia, according to the daily update of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health.
So far, a total of 43,432 tests for SARS-CoV-2 in Austria have been positive. Most of the new infections occurred in Vienna with 242 in a daily comparison. In Lower Austria there were 117 cases, in Upper Austria 53 and in Styria 44. In Salzburg 31 new positive tests were reported, in Tirol 27, in Vorarlberg 26 and in Burgenland 10 and in Carinthia 6.
14,493 tests were carried out in 24 hours, at least 154 in Burgenland and 190 in Carinthia. On the other hand, there were 3,682 tests in Vienna and 3,070 in Lower Austria and 3,029 in Upper Austria. 1,882 samples were evaluated in Styria, 1,023 in Vorarlberg, 850 in Tyrol and 613 tests in Salzburg. 1,569,992 tests have been carried out for the corona virus in Austria since the outbreak of the pandemic.
