Next week will really be the time. Wiener Austria will introduce its investor, which it calls a “strategic partner”. It’s about time, because on Wednesday the club (currently still) with financial problems has to deliver the license documents to the Bundesliga.

The last course was established practically on Thursday night, and the last committee with the supervisory board also gave its approval for the association (all information >>>) It is now an open secret that this is the “Flagship Group” of Georgian billionaire Michael Surguladze, whose compatriot Merab Jordan, who recently fell ill with Covid, will act as governor. Although those responsible for the FAK continue to cover themselves with the cloak of silence.

“Something can still happen,” warns the economic director. Markus Kraetschmer I’m LAOLA1-Interview. But the 49-year-old also exudes great confidence that “we can take the last formal steps quickly.”

The Viennese speaks of “the beginning of a new era” and also explains how things are going for his personal future in Austria.

LAOLA1: Was it a historic evening for Austria?

Markus Kraetschmer: I would call it a very important stage. It shows the unity of the club that all the organizations have approved unanimously, that makes me happy and proud. But there are still some formal points to be finalized. In the next week we can present the association in detail. So we can really talk about a historic day and the beginning of a new era.

LAOLA1: There are still final points to be finalized. Can something go wrong there?

Kraetschmer: When you make a deal, you close something, you advertise it, but it is still subject to certain reservations because certain conditions must be met. In our case, we orient ourselves in the framework conditions given by the committees, now we have received a final pass from the last necessary committee. Now we have to finish the last details, we have to cross the finish line. Hope we can quickly complete the final formal steps. But something can still happen. All inks need to dry on all contracts so we can advertise something. You can imagine that this topic is not covered on one page.

LAOLA1: How many pages are there approximately?

Kraetschmer: (laughs) I’m not talking about details, but a lot has come together.

LAOLA1: What has been decided in detail? The strategic partner has certain rights. Have you kept 49.9 percent of the shares that have been talked about in recent days and weeks?

Kraetschmer: I don’t want to comment on rumors. We have worked very hard in the last 16 months to find a strategic partner. There have been different ways. There was always talk of a strategic partner, but there were several possible combinations. After weighing all the general conditions (you cannot always see the beginning, you also have to see a possible end), we have negotiated a package during the last weeks. We will present details in the next week.

“The signal is clear: we want to continue working with Peter Stöger and me”

LAOLA1: The deadline for submitting license documents is next week. One can speak of a photographic finish.

Kraetschmer: There is a misconception that it is only about financial aspects, it is also about trainer licenses, medical certificates and safety certificates. But of course, in our case, the financial aspect is very important and is closely monitored accordingly. We have negative equity and we are affected by the measures that are being taken in accordance with UEFA’s approach. That is why we have to obtain documents of the appropriate quality. We know that we have to provide data with this license request. When preparing the facts, not only the committees but also the finance bank, lawyers and auditors must comply with the requirements. These are the formal steps that still need to be taken to get everything together for the Wednesday license application.

LAOLA1: Lately there has been a lot of public discussion about the future role of Peter Stöger in Austria. How is your future in Austria?

Kraetschmer: Our contracts expire at the end of the season. In terms of licensing, we want to lay the foundations to ensure the future of the club. Only then do we want to clarify our personal future. We have already had several conversations with President Frank Hensel and we want to make a decision in the next few weeks, actually days. The signal is clear: they want to continue working with us. Also in this case, Chairman Hensel, in his role as Chairman of the Supervisory Board, obtained a series of resolutions. If the task is interesting, if you can develop something together, we will find a solution. If not, it is better to separate. But now it was important to get this incredibly interesting project off the ground.

LAOLA1: How is Merab Jordan’s health now?

Kraetschmer: (smiles) I don’t know. I don’t want to comment on individual names. Levan Jordan is in Vienna and is now training with the Young Violets.
