Innsbruck: Everyone should savor early summer on weekends. Because from Monday it will be winter again. The Ice Saints starting May 12 will more than live up to its name this year. Even some snowflakes can be lost in the valleys on Tuesday.
But first it is very hot. Temperatures in Tyrol rise to 24 degrees on Saturday, and peak values even reach 26 degrees on Sunday. It is even more summery in Lower Austria, where experts predict up to 28 degrees. “With a high southwest current, humid air masses enter the country and, especially on the northern side of the Alps, it becomes humid and warm for the first time this year,” says Manfred Spatzierer, chief meteorologist at the Austrian Climate Center. Severe (UWZ).
There will be no clear sun on both days. Some showers and thunderstorms can form in the mountains and on the northern side of the Alps. In eastern Austria and Lower Carinthia, however, it remains largely dry.
“Britta” brings snow and rain
“Britta” is coming up on Monday. The cold front comes from Scandinavia and is first felt in the Alps with a hair dryer. In the eastern half of the country, temperatures of up to 27 degrees are possible again. However, more and more clouds are spreading from the west. The first rain begins south of the main alpine range.
In the afternoon there will be showers and thunderstorms on the north side of the Alps. At night it rains from Vorarlberg to Waldviertel. At the end of the afternoon, the snow line falls rapidly below 1000 meters. At night, some snowflakes fall up to 500 meters. “A thin layer of snow can temporarily form in places above about 1,000 meters,” predicts Spatzierer.
On Tuesday morning a little snow falls in the Northern Alps. The whole day in Tyrol remains cloudy, gray and rainy. Temperatures no longer exceed 9 to 16 degrees. It can then freeze at the highest elevations on Wednesday night. The outlook for the second half of the week is now much warmer. (TT.com)
