In its next session on February 24, the National Council will discuss numerous legislative proposals. Specifically, it is expected, for example, to increase unemployment assistance in the months of January to March to the level of unemployment benefit and to extend the regulation of permits for pregnant workers in professions with physical contact until the end of June. Various temporary special regulations of the tax law, for example in relation to the travel subsidy and the tax exemption for ethanol for the production of disinfectants, will apply until the middle of the year. In addition, the coalition parties have announced specific legal provisions to extend the reduced working hours. A new seating law is intended to strengthen Austria as a venue for international organizations and conferences.
These points are still on the agenda
However, some bills can only be put on the agenda if the health committee and a finance committee that may take place complete their deliberations scheduled for Monday on time. These include, for example, the recognition of professional qualifications acquired abroad for health professions and scholarships for companies that carry out crown tests at company level. An amendment to the Telematics for Health Act aims to ensure that all COVID-19 vaccines are entered into the central vaccination registry.
Also on the agenda: the 2020 Green Report on the situation of agriculture, a special report from the Ombudsman’s Office on the professional integration of people with disabilities and numerous resolutions with which MEPs expressed their skepticism about the Mercosur Agreement and his rejection of autonomous weapon systems without human need to express control: the so-called killer robots. The choice of topics for the current time comes to the SPÖ.
Another issue of the Presidial was the convocation of several parliamentary groups to reclassify the Ibiza video and other documents to a lower security level, with the president of the National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka, in contact with the Ministry of Justice in this regard. A question posed to the Ministry of Justice as the basis for the decision has yet to be answered.
