Five people were injured in a fire in the Scheibbs district and one person was seriously injured. 117 members of the fire brigade were on duty at Purgstall in Erlauf.

A fire in a residential building in the center of Purgstall an der Erlauf in the Scheibbs district injured five people, including three children, on Sunday morning. As announced by fire department spokesman Franz Resperger, one man suffered serious injuries. The injured were taken to hospitals. According to Sonja Kellner of the Red Cross, the receiving hospitals were the state clinics of Scheibbs and Amstetten. 117 members of five fire departments were on duty.

Flames broke out in the two-story apartment building with an attic spread out around 7 a.m. The fire department received numerous emergency calls. While eight people left the building independently, the helpers carried an adult and a child out of the building. In the man’s case, another neighbor of the apartment building bravely intervened. According to Resperger, the fire department member saw the seriously injured person “lying on the ladder and rescued him outside.”

Three children injured in the fire

According to the Red Cross spokeswoman, the three injured children were waiters between the ages of five and ten. As with the two hospitalized adults, there was a suspicion of smoke gas poisoning. Milder burns were also recorded.

During the extinguishing work, the helpers proceeded under respiratory protection and with the help of rotating ladders. After about an hour and a half, the fire was under control, Resperger emphasized. There were also five ambulances and two ambulances at the scene.
