The corona vaccination at the Eberschwang Nursing Home (Ried im Innkreis District) in early January caused a stir over the weekend. As the “Kronen Zeitung” reported in its Sunday edition, only 16 people from the home are said to have been vaccinated, but 30 outsiders, including the mayor and two deputy mayors.

At the nursing home, only eight residents and eight employees were vaccinated because many people were ill on the planned vaccination day. Mayor Josef Bleckenwegner (SPÖ) and two deputy mayors of the SPÖ and FPÖ were vaccinated at home, but also three relatives of the elderly, as well as the family doctor and the ordination staff.

In response to a request from the APA, the state crisis team said that this behavior was not covered by state requirements. In nursing homes and nursing homes, the vaccine should be administered to residents, employees, and outside service providers who regularly work in the facility. Family members can only be vaccinated if the remaining doses are left behind. “The professional group of politicians is basically part of phase 2 of the vaccination strategy,” writes the crisis team.

Mayor Bleckenwenger explained in the “Kronen Zeitung” his approach to exemplary effect for people who doubt vaccination. “I already thought about writing about my vaccination in the next community newspaper.” He doesn’t understand why this should be a “matter of state.” Local politicians have been classified as “people of systemic importance to the household,” says the mayor.

ÖVP State Manager Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer sees the need for Birgit Gerstorfer (SPÖ), who is responsible for nursing homes, to explain to him why nearly two-thirds of all vaccines in Eberschwang were administered to non-residents. For Hattmannsdorfer it is incomprehensible that vaccination doses are handled “so negligently.”

The home supervisor will check the vaccination process in Eberschwang, the spokesperson for State Councilor Birgit Gerstorfer (SPÖ) said at the request of the APA. There are very clear guidelines. “It is important that these state regulations are followed because the vaccine is in short supply.” Gerstorfer will have the home supervisor check why the people outside the home were given the vaccine to make sure everything went smoothly.
