Vienna – If the growing number of corona infections there is a new desire for politics. Styrian ÖVP Governor Hermann Schützenhöfer would like to be able to intervene in the private sector in case of violations of Crown rules – “for certain cases, for certain times”.

In the case of health challenges like this pandemic, there are “restrictions on freedom.” He is for restrictions “where they can be explained”. He doesn’t want to “look into the bedroom, but if the excesses are celebrated at private parties in a basement or in a garden shed, that has to be resolved. Schützenhöfer believes that a “constitutionally viable path” must be sought, ergo “the other parties” involved.

How do you feel about your desire? The Green Health Minister, Rudolf Anschober, protests against him, referring to the legal situation. The Covid Measures Law excludes controls in the living area, which is also “fundamentally correct,” says Anschober, who believes that “the vast majority of people are capable of following clear recommendations.” Once again, the department head urges people to take responsibility; they all have to be “part of the solution”.

“The police intervene in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations”

How do Anschober’s coalition partners, the Turks on the Bund, see the matter? Schützenhöfer is also not applauded for his breakthrough. This is no joy, as you can see in the comments. From the office of the ÖVP Interior Minister Karl Nehammer, the Tiroler Tageszeitung was told: “The police are taking action in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. Therefore, police checks in private areas are not possible. “ÖVP Finance Minister Margarete Schramböck says:” I am not the person who is so interwoven that you have to check everything. “The ÖVP Chancellor , Sebastian Kurz, does not comment on the cause.

Reds, blues and pinks reject what Schützenhöfer demands. For the SPÖ, “sniffing in private spaces is out of the question,” says party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner.

As usual, FPÖ club president Herbert Kickl said: “Schützenhöfer, a Kurz supporter, lives out his Austro-fascist surveillance fantasies. With such proposals, the ÖVP governor himself is a case for the protection of the constitution. It should be put under observation. “The ÖVP is preparing” step by step the political land grab against the freedoms and fundamentals of the Austrians. There is no constitutional license to pry into the deepest private sphere. Certainly not with us, “says Kickl.

“The ÖVP’s fantasies of omnipotence never end”

Styrian FPÖ chief Mario Kunasek announces that he is outraged: “We ask the governor to clarify.” The Styrian NEOS also protested: “The ÖVP’s fantasies of omnipotence are endless,” says club president Niko Swatek. “There should be no constitutional possibility of intervening in the private sphere.” Also from Tyrol comes a no. SPÖ Chairman Georg Dornauer qualifies Schützenhöfer’s request: “Questionable spying methods and excessive privacy violations are another sad low point in the failed crown management of the federal government and the ÖVP-led countries.”

Only business representatives from Styria intervene at Schützenhöfer: more control options are needed to avoid a second blockage.
