On the one hand, Anschober may receive advice from a working group, as well as external doctors, mathematicians and health researchers. They only give informal advice, but their experience can be incorporated into ordinance law. Second, there is a Corona traffic light commission: it votes on the color of the map, but decisions on measures are made again by politicians.
The memory of the Supreme Health Council (OSR) has recently been awakened. The law requires a body of doctors and experts from various disciplines. They discuss, agree to a resolution and present the result to the Minister of Health. This decision is not binding, but can be published. If the minister decides otherwise, he would have to explain this to the public.
The OSR expired at the end of 2019. Transitional Minister Brigitte Zarfl did not make personnel decisions, and Green Minister Anschober had only been in office for just under two months when the pandemic hit the country.
The rector of MedUni left the working group
Former President Markus Müller, rector of MedUni Vienna, reminded Anschober of the planned new appointment, and was also one of the first to suggest preparatory measures for the pandemic.
The former president of OSR was quickly installed on the task force, but Müller was fired in the summer. Explain the reasons to the KURIER: “The group of advisers has grown steadily, at some point my contribution was about to end. Therefore, we have finished my work by mutual agreement. “
But there is still no new OSR, and we are already in November. What would be your advantage? “The OSR could bring a broad, interdisciplinary and topic-specific experience,” says Müller. The bottom line, however, is: “In view of the existing Covid advisory groups, a clear mandate and a clear body architecture would be needed.”
“Anschober doesn’t want the experts to decide”
In response to a request from KURIER, the Health Ministry said: “Preparations for the appointment of the OSR are underway after the new appointment has been delayed due to the Covid situation.”
Neos’ social spokesman Gerald Loacker strongly criticized the delay: “The reinstatement of the OSR would have brought more expertise and real decisions from the experts. But Anschober obviously doesn’t want the experts to decide. ” Loacker is also upset that Anschober does not want the AGES reports to go to parliament – “by doing so, he politicizes the fight against pandemics,” Loacker says.
