As a third federal state, Burgenland would have met the criteria to turn orange at the Corona stoplight, but according to information from the APA, it voluntarily remained red. At the district level, however, there are no announcements yet, Austria as a state remains in the red.
Traffic light circuits are always based on long-term development. At this point, paradoxically, it would be Tyrol, the hotspot for the probably most contagious variant of the South African Crown, which is one of the weekly winners when the number of infections is decreasing. According to the traffic light commission working document, the incidence of cases per 100,000 inhabitants dropped by almost 18 percent in the last week, which means that Tirol even has the best value. If you take the 14-day incidence, you are only behind Salzburg with minus 15 percent.
Salzburg with the highest incidence
Even if the numbers decrease further, Salzburg is still the worst affected federal state with a value of 128.8, just ahead of Carinthia. The Austrian average is exactly 100.1. In the current weekly average, Tyrol has the lowest value with 80.2, followed by Upper Austria and Vienna.
This is the pure number of cases. If you add up the risk factors, the federal capital has the best value, as is now customary. It was the only federal state that had switched to an orange light the week before.
Going back to the raw case numbers. The upper district here is currently Waidhofen / Ybbs (26.7) ahead of Steyr-Stadt (28.9). With a value of 326.8, Hermagor in Carinthia replaces Tamsweg in Salzburg’s Lungau as the most polluted district. This is followed by Jennersdorf, Wiener Neustadt-Stadt, and Lienz is the only Tyrolean district that is not affected by the mandatory exit test that starts tomorrow because the South African mutation has not yet appeared there. The Schwaz district, which is primarily affected by this, is 134.0 and therefore has the second highest value in the state.
