The German soccer Bundesliga must continue to wait for a clear signal from politicians to restart the game. A decision on the resumption of games in the 1st and 2nd league, which was suspended since mid-March due to the crown crisis, must be taken on May 6 at the very least. This was the result of a meeting between Chancellor Angela Merkel and the 16 prime ministers on Thursday.
According to information from the participants, a decision on the continuation of the Bundesliga and the club’s sport was postponed on Thursday, the dpa reported. This means that professional clubs and all sports have to wait at least one more week.

The next step for the expected restart may take place next Wednesday at the earliest. So Merkel and the prime ministers meet again, and the Bundesliga should also be a problem. Meanwhile, a draft resolution should be developed for the gradual resumption of the entire sports business.
The interior and sports ministers had recommended the resumption of league play in mid to late May, the possible start date specified by Prime Ministers Markus Söder and Armin Laschet the weekend after the next (May 9) now it seems impossible. With a positive signal from politics, a start on May 16 or 23 is conceivable. A final decision could be made at the next political summit.
The German Football League had presented a concept the week before so that the remaining nine days of the match could be played before June 30 without a spectator. From the point of view of safety and health at work, the Ministry of Labor described this as “not problematic” and it will be presented on Wednesday in the German Bundestag sports committee.
The continuation of the season should avoid an economic imbalance in the billion dollar industry. If the 2019/20 season were canceled, 13 of the 36 professional clubs, according to the specialized magazine “kicker”, would be at risk of bankruptcy.
