The mode in the highest Swiss soccer leagues will continue beyond 2021.

This resulted in a written vote among the representatives of the 20 clubs of the Swiss Football League (SFL). The Super League has not increased, as in Austria or Scotland, from ten to twelve teams.

As the SFL announced, 10 clubs voted for and against a mode change. A two-thirds majority would have been necessary for a change. The debate was over a two-tier Austrian model-based championship with twelve clubs in the top league, 22 games in the qualifying round, and then a ten-game final or a relegation round.

The concept for the league’s ghost games is taking shape

The SFL had already dealt with a mode change in 2017. At that time, most club reps had taken the position that league ten is the best solution with the current mode that has existed since the 2003/04 season. As a compromise, the bombardment (descent) was reintroduced.

Decision to continue postponed

The Swiss soccer association SFV suspended the decision to cancel the championship round. The association is awaiting the decision of the sports minister, who only wants to provide information on additional requirements regarding the Corona crisis on April 29, the SFV announced Thursday.

The continuation or premature termination of play for this season is under debate. By the end of April, the association had already suspended all gaming operations for all games of all categories and ages.
