Easter blockade in the east: the extension to April 13 is being discussed

Since Maundy Thursday, stricter crown measures apply to the eastern federal states. A first draft of the ordinance on the Easter rest is already circulating in the media.

Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) will consult with the governors of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland today at 12 noon, and then with the social partners. In the afternoon, the prescription should be in place. Rules announced last week after the Eastern Summit may be tightened.

Here are the rules that are known so far:

  • Entry and exit only in exceptional cases

Visits between the eastern region and the rest of Austria are severely restricted: residents of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland can only enter and leave the country from the already known exceptions to exit restrictions, reports the Standard.

The exceptions would be, for example, to avoid dangers, for work or training, to exercise and fulfill family rights and obligations and cover basic needs.

Contact with your partner, close relatives, or relatives who do not live in the same household should be included in the exceptions. However, the one plus one rule applies here: only one person can visit another home, and vice versa. Children are not counted here, they are allowed due to supervisory duty.

  • 24 hour exit restrictions

For the eastern region, departure restrictions apply all day, that is, 24 hours, starting April 1.

Loud today in case this applies until April 13, and not just until April 6, like the other rules. This point is still the subject of negotiations with the provincial governors.

Businesses in the East will be banned again from April 1 (probably until April 6). If you still need gifts for Easter, you would have to look in supermarkets, pharmacies or gas station stores; they are exempt from closure as in previous closures. However, they are only allowed to offer what they otherwise have in the typical range.

On Monday there is speculation about a possible take-out ban in the catering sector, as, for example, in the center of Vienna, large crowds of people had recently formed in front of the restaurants in their open-air bars . It was also indicated in the room that Click & Collect, that is, the collection of ordered products, is prohibited in retail.

However, none are included in the current draft. Therefore, collection should continue to be allowed. The economy had insisted on that.

  • Service providers also block

Body hugging service providers such as hairdressers will also be closed in eastern Austria from April 1-6.

  • There are no trips to leisure facilities.

Easter excursions or activities do not fall within the exception rule of exit restrictions, in this sense zoos, museums, libraries and other leisure facilities are also closed.

  • FFP2 masks will be expanded

Starting April 1, you will also need to wear an FFP2 mask if you are not alone in an interior room. This is likely to apply particularly to offices and other workplaces. Outside, you must wear an FFP2 mask when there are crowds.
