Katharina Liensberger won the slalom at Are with a fantastic second race and celebrated her first World Cup victory.

Katharina Liensberger achieved her first victory in the Alpine Skiing World Cup. The Vorarlberg woman prevailed on Saturday in the second slalom at Aare this weekend 0.72 seconds ahead of American Mikaela Shiffrin and 1.65 seconds ahead of Wendy Holdener of Switzerland.

It was the first slalom success for Austrian women since November 30, 2014 and the first World Cup victory this winter. Petra Vlhova improved to eighth place in the final.

The Slovak started the decision from 27th place after a serious mistake in the first round and was right in front in the Slalom World Cup. Katharina Gallhuber achieved her best result of the season in ninth position, Franziska Gritsch was tenth. Marie-Therese Sporer reached 20th place, Chiara Mair reached 26th. Katharina Huber did not qualify for the second round.
