Bayer Leverkusen can write again on Matchday 24 after five winless matches in all competitions thanks to a 1-0 away win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. For the hosts, on the other hand, it is the seventh competitive match without a victory, the last five in a row were shattered.
After a first half, in which Leverkusen was slightly better, the first surprise occurred in the 57th minute. Frimpong fouls Thuram in the penalty area, referee Siebert gives a penalty. This is canceled by the VAR, as ÖFB legionnaire Valentino Lazaro, who was previously actively involved in the game, was in an offside position.
The winning goal came from a quick combination of the Werkself. Tah wins the ball at the center line, the game controller passes Amiri to Diaby, who blocks in the penalty area. The Gladbach Sommer goalkeeper can only rebound the shot, Schick turns the margin into victory for Peter Bosz’s team (76th).
Hannes Wolf and Stefan Lainer go through the Rose-Elf, Lazaro is substituted in the 81st minute. Aleksandar Dragovic sits on Leverkusen’s bench, Julian Baumgartlinger still injured.
While Leverkusen is fifth with 40 points, Mönchengladbach is only 10th with 33 points.
