Stefan Kraft triumphed ahead of Robert Johansson and Karl Geiger. Daniel Huber missed a medal in the final.
Stefan Kraft is world champion on the big hill. The man from Salzburg won with jumps in 132.5 and 134.0 m with 4.4 points ahead of Norwegian Robert Johansson (129.5 / 135.5) and German Karl Geiger (132.0 / 132.0) third individual gold medal after the 2017 double. Daniel Huber dropped from third to eighth in the final.
Kraft’s success wasn’t necessarily to be expected after the season so far. He had achieved third place as the best result of this season, in which the corona virus had forced the ÖSV jumpers into a forced break just after the start. The world ski flight record holder also had to dose strength training and missions in preparation after back problems.
But on one of his favorite hills, where he won the 2014 and 2016 tours, Kraft found his old strength. The first place in the standings and the best distance in the test round, the two-time World Cup winner was followed by a World Cup triumph with heavy snowfall. At the World Cup, the ÖSV jumpers have been without a single victory in 25 competitions.
Huber, who is still waiting for his first World Cup victory, came in after 133.5 to 123.5m and fell back. World Cup rookie Jan Hörl (127m / 136.5m) and Philipp Aschenwald (123.5 / 130) climbed to 10th and 11th places in the final, raising hopes for more precious metals in the competition for teams on Saturday (5 pm / ORF 1 live).
German defending champion Markus Eisenbichler, who after a 122.5m flight at half time alone 16. fell to 134m in the final. Norway’s World Cup dominator Halvor Egner Granerud was not on the way after a crown infection.
