Liverpool lose to Chelsea: that’s why Jürgen Klopp experienced his blue miracle against Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea FC with coach Thomas Tuchel just won the Premier League main game against Liverpool, but they deservedly won 1-0 (1-0) and thus plunged Jürgen Klopp further into crisis.
While the Blues are now in fourth place (the table), the prospects for the Reds of a Champions League qualification through the league are now very slim.

The reason for the victory at Anfield Road was once again a solid defensive performance from Chelsea, which is becoming increasingly compact and efficient with Tuchel.

Only Timo Werner had bad luck in his shoes again, the newcomer tried everything and jumped into the team. And yet it is not his season. Three things that caught our attention on Thursday night.

1. Tuchel wanted speed and ran over Klopp.

In the end, his plan worked. Coach Thomas Tuchel chose Ben Chilwell (instead of Marcos Alonso) as left back and Timo Werner (instead of Olivier Giroud) as front row. His focus was clearly on the “speed” property.

From a tight five-man chain of defense, Chelsea sought to win the ball and then switch quickly with precise, often long balls. At the same time, it was important to stay calm with Ball. “We told the players that we need high-level performance from them. We were brave and did an excellent job. We had an answer for everything,” Tuchel said, rightly praising his team.

No matter how much pressure Liverpool created by running aggressively, the blues were permanently unleashed through thoughtful passing play. It’s remarkable how tactically disciplined Chelsea presented itself under Tuchel – the manager seems to have found a good connection with his team in no time.

“I’m just trying to help,” Tuchel said modestly, looking forward again. “Of course it was a six-point game, but the race continues. We don’t have much time to celebrate.”

From an extremely good team performance against Liverpool, the calm of defense chief Andreas Christensen, as well as Mason Mount’s individual class, stood out. It was also the 22-year-old who scored the decisive goal (42nd).

2. Over and over fuss over Werner

Lack of commitment is really not to blame. Werner doesn’t just work, he literally worked hard for his team. Long runs, many sprints and permanent offers made him stand out against Liverpool. And it was obvious that he was clearly superior in the “speed” duel with Fabinho. However, his nerves fail far too often in front of goal, as in the 16th minute when he appeared free in front of Alisson and failed in this with a balloon.

It was in keeping with his rather weak season with five goals on the scoreboard that his remarkable goal in the 24th minute was recalled due to a very slim offside position.

Positive at least: Werner is again sought after by his teammates and in Tuchel he has a coach who believes in him. Therefore, his final breakthrough in the Premier League is definitely approaching.

However, some Chelsea fans still have their doubts. As an example, one “Twitter” user wrote: “There is no doubt that Werner worked the hardest of all against Liverpool, but he is annoying as a forward, he does not bring creativity, he spoils balls and he is out for good.

3. Klopp is heading for disaster

He has always been a sore loser. Even after the final whistle of the interview, it was noticed that Klopp was pissed off. “We have to win. If we don’t, we have no right to the Champions League,” he growled. He tried to highlight the strengths of his team, but couldn’t help but name the biggest weakness: the final pass.

Up front, apparently, neither Sadio Mané nor Roberto Firmino nor Mohamed Salah can think of anything. After the fifth consecutive loss at home (!), Klopp had no choice but to call the result a “major setback”.

In addition, he suffered the frustration of superstar Salah, who was replaced by Diogo Jota in the 62nd minute, before which the Egyptian only shook his head. “I wanted to bring fresh legs again. Sure, I could have brought out Firmino or Mané, but I decided on Salah,” Klopp said.

Either way: whatever he tackles this season, he won’t be as successful as in the past. Bad luck with injuries, a tight schedule and an inoperative Thiago in midfield … the reasons for the crisis are complex.

Real reinforcements are needed in the summer, but they only come if the Champions League is safe. And that of all people is now very far. This is a disaster for Klopp and his ambitions.
