SGradual return from confinement, but still a long way to normal: after months of stagnation, there are first chances for German amateur and popular sports to relax in the corona pandemic. Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and federal state prime ministers agreed on this in Berlin on Wednesday, according to their decision document.

Depending on regional incidence values, federal states may therefore foresee non-contact outdoor sports in small groups of up to ten people as a first step. This applies if a stable seven-day incidence of fewer than 50 new corona infections per 100,000 people is achieved in a country or region.

If the incidence is stable or falls below 100, at least “individual sports alone or in pairs and outdoor sports in groups of up to 20 children up to 14 years” may be possible. The relaxation of the spectator ban in the Bundesliga and other professional sports is not mentioned in the decision.

Only in one more step can contact sports be resumed indoors or outdoors without contact after 14 days with a stable incidence below 50. This could allow, for example, to revisit a gym. Non-contact sport and contact sport are not defined in more detail in the resolution. After another two weeks, contact sports in the room would also be conceivable again, depending on the incidence.

For months, the running athlete had slowed down in the area of hobbies and performance. Since the beginning of November it is no longer allowed to play, or even train. The German Confederation of Olympic Sports had expressed on Tuesday in an open letter to Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) the desire for a perspective for club-based sport. It’s “time” for that. On Monday, the German Football Association sent a letter to the Chancellery and the Federal Minister.

According to the decision, the possible openings for the sport are divided into several steps. An overview:

Third opening step (the first two do not take sport into account):

– If a stable seven-day incidence of less than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a country is achieved, then non-contact sports may be possible outdoors in small groups of up to ten people.

– If the seven-day incidence is stable or falls below 100, the respective country may allow individual sports with a maximum of 5 people from 2 households and outdoor sports in groups of up to twenty children up to 14 years of age.

Fourth opening step:

– If the seven-day incidence in the region or country remains stable below 50 for 14 days after the previous opening step, the country may allow contact sports indoors and outdoors without contact.

– If, on the other hand, the incidence of seven days two weeks after the previous opening step is between 50 and 100, contact sports indoors and outdoors without contact can only be possible if all participants have a rapid crown test negative daily. In the same day.

Fifth opening step:

– If the seven-day incidence in the region or country remains stable below 50 for 14 days after the previous opening step, the country can resume indoor contact sports.

– If, on the other hand, the incidence is between 50 and 100 14 days after the previous opening step, indoor contact sports are not possible. So only indoor non-contact sport and outdoor contact sport are allowed, but without the requirement of a test.

161 districts in Germany are currently below the incidence threshold of 50 or less. This was based on data from the Robert Koch Institute on Wednesday morning. Due to the spread of contagious variants, experts do not assume that the incidence will decrease across the board in the near future.
