With her latest draw at 2-2, Swedish veteran Caroline Seger quenched the joy of the women’s spusu SKN in the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. After two goals from Zver, shortly after the half-time break, they were already 2-0 up front. Despite the draw, anything is possible in the second leg in St Pölten (next Wednesday at 8.30 pm – live on ORF Sport +)!
The weather at Malmö Idrottsplats was not exactly welcoming, with fog and temperatures close to freezing, the wolf women of the spusu SKN began their premiere: for the first time the women of St. Pölten played a UEFA Women’s round of 16 match Champions League. Mateja Zver’s first goal showed that the support team did a good preparatory job: a long ball from goalkeeper Kresche was directed from Zágor to Mikolajová, who looked up briefly, dropped it on her Slovenian teammate and completed it. Goalkeeper Kresche was also strong in the first half, defusing several dangerous balls in the first 45 minutes.
Rear EQ for Swedes
With the first attack after the break, Mateja Zver took a step forward, leaving three opponents and making it 2-0. But then the Swedes showed up and showed their class. First Balog saved on the line, but then Troelsgaard raised the next goal. Kresche was in great shape even after the break and cleared a free kick to the corner just before the end, but had to fish the ball out of the net again in injury time – veteran Caroline Seger tied 2-2 in the extra time.
The late goal tarnished the joy of the St. Pölten women, but the possibility of the quarter-finals lives on. This will take place next Wednesday (March 10) in prime time, at 8.30 pm. The game is played in the NV Arena. ORF Sport + broadcasts live.
