On the eighth day of the Qualifying Round in the ICE Hockey League, the Dornbirn Bulldogs will fix their playoff ticket! The Ländle cracks remain victorious in the West Derby at HC Innsbruck 5: 3 (1: 0, 3: 2, 1: 1) and will again fight for the championship title for the first time since the 2017/18 season.
Head coach Kai Suikkanen’s team got off to a better start to the game and after some good preparatory work from Rapuzzi through Salmela took the lead (ninth). Shortly before the end of the third, Pavlovs (19th) missed the great opportunity to make it 2-0, simply hitting the crossbar. Shortly before that, Herr misses Dornbirn goalkeeper Östlund (16.).
In the center section there are five goals to marvel at: Rapuzzi puts together a flawless double pack (21, 27) and increases to 3-0, Lattner (29) recovers the Tyrolese with a snapshot. However, Woger (36th) can restore the old lead after a good solo, Girard (37th) can shorten it again 77 seconds later.
The final third brings dominant “sharks”, which finally make the game exciting after a power play hit by Tansey (51st). 17 seconds before the final siren, Nilsson (60./EN) is responsible for Dornbirn’s early participation in the play-offs with an empty net hit.
The Bulldogs remain at the top of the table with 21 points, HC Innsbruck is eliminated from the playoff fight with only eight points.
Bratislava turns the game around and celebrates playoff participation
The capitals of Bratislava took the jackpot in the first year of their league membership! The Capitals turn a 0: 2 deficit on the Graz99ers into a 3: 2 success (0: 1, 0: 1, 3: 0) and are in the ICE Hockey League playoffs for the first time.
It is the Styrians who dominate the game at the beginning and have a goal shot ratio of 21: 8 only in the first third. More than Kainz’s early starting goal (4th) cannot succeed.
The home team also got off to a dream start in the second section, Latta (22) rose to 2-0 with a smooth wrist shot. As a result, the match flattens out, yet chances are slim in the subsequent course of the third.
But Bratislava turns it around in the last 20 minutes of the match: First, Goalgetter Hults (43./PP) returns his team in excess, only six minutes later Mrazik (49.) retires unsustainable to equalize. When the 99ers catch up again, Fortier (56th) turns the game upside down and shoots Bratislava to the playoffs.
The Bratislava Capitals remain tied with the Dornbirn Bulldogs for second place, the Graz99ers (13 points) fall to fifth with the following loss.
Real Black Wings playoff opportunities
In the final duel between Black Wings and VSV, Stahlstädter maintains their playoff chances! Thanks to a furious first third, the Linzers beat Draustädter 5: 3 (4: 1, 0: 1, 1: 1) and closed the gap to two points.
The Black Wings got off to a fast start in the person of Lebler (1st) and took a 1-0 lead after 31 seconds. VSV barely recovered from the goal conceded early and caught the 0: 2 and 0: 3 with another hit from Lebler (12th) and a rebound from Meija (13th).
Schmidt (16.) recovers his troops with a Wristshot – Gracnar misses – but Fraser fakes the target at his own goal, the hit is awarded to Brucker (18./PP).
In the middle section, the VSV has improved again, but fails again and again because of Gracnar, who advanced to the new number one in Linz. Shortly before the end of the third, the Carinthians use a 4 versus 3 majority in their favor and put it 2: 4 through Gill (39./PP).
The final section finally turned into a drama when Collins first hit the outside post, but a few minutes later he was responsible for the 3: 4 goal in the majority (49./PP). Shortly after, Caron has to leave the ice for 2 + 2 minutes, Lebler (55./PP) uses the long superiority to his hat trick and the final score of 5: 3.
The Black Wings (14 points) maintain their chances in the fight for the playoffs and are only two points behind VSV third, the Villachers are currently in last place in the playoffs.
