The City of Vienna will establish public pub gardens, Give restaurateurs who don’t have a chance to resume operations.. The pub gardens can be re-unlocked on March 27. A corresponding agreement was reached with the federal government on Monday. The Chamber of Commerce was followed by criticism, as many homeowners have no way of offering places to serve outdoors.
“There is a need for social contact”Ludwig declared. “However, when people come together in an unregulated way, there is a risk of further contagion.” Ideally, therefore, meetings should be conducted in a controlled manner. Garden cafes are one way to do this, he was convinced.

To support as many restaurateurs as possible here, will soon be served in select public places. The mayor announced that there will first be talks with the social partners. The areas themselves could be operated in cooperation with event companies, he said.
Locals should be able to use parts of the respective areas there, although the exact conditions have yet to be determined, as emphasized. “I see restaurateurs as allies,” Ludwig said. The number of public spaces that will eventually be used is also open. However, it is important that the entrances and exits can be configured without traffic jams, the city chief noted. Of course, a comprehensive security concept is also taken into account, he added.
Ludwig referred to comparable initiatives such as the Vienna Summer of Culture the previous year. Back then, there were also strict access rules and a restriction on the number of visitors. The film festival at Rathausplatz also took place under such conditions in 2020.
