In Klagenfurt and Spittal an der Drau, two former mayors could regain their positions. In the state capital, the mayor of the SP, Maria Luise-Mathiaschitz, has to compete against her predecessor Christian Scheider. Before the elections he had changed from FP to Team Krnten. The town chief, Gerhard Pirih (SP), also fights his predecessor Gerhard Kfer in Spittal an der Drau. The latter worked for the SP for a long time before forming the Krnten team as an offshoot of the former Stronach party.
After the elections, the SP is the strongest parliamentary group in 54 municipalities, the VP in 47 and the FP in 21. Team Krnten and Einheitsliste / Enotna Lista are each ahead in one municipality. Overall, the PS reached 39.93 percent (minus 0.3 percentage points) nationwide, the VP reached 24.31 percent (plus 1.57) and the PF reached 13.82 percent (minus 2.3). The Greens came in at 3.55 percent, the Neos at 1.36 percent.
