In a year that truly challenged all of us, and especially, of course, the men and women of the volunteer fire brigade. “She is grateful” that the fire brigade has been and is always effective even in times of pandemic. “Mikl-Leitner called the surface tests, in which about 30,000 firefighters were on duty, as an example.

“Our performance record for 2020 is impressive. Despite the pandemic, we have seen a sharp increase, especially in the fire and environmental operations segment, in other words, storm or flood operations, ”says the commander of the state fire brigade, Dietmar Fahrafellner. From the beginning, the state governor intervened on the test roads. They followed the call, helped immediately and organized all the logistics of the tests for all the communities of Lower Austria through the new container terminal in Tulln. “We are not only happy to participate in disaster control, but also, if needed, in all activities for our population,” Fahrafellner said.

Regarding the importance of volunteer fire brigades for society, Mikl-Leitner said: “Being a firefighter means helping and lending a hand in an emergency.” She emphasized fire operations and operations during storms or accidents in Lower Austria, but also assistance abroad, such as the recent earthquake in Croatia. He also mentioned the many exercises, contests, festivals and events, even if they are not possible at the moment. “All of this makes our fire brigade an important part of the Lower Austrian safety family.” According to the governor, this security family is envied in many parts of the world.

“Overall, our volunteer fire brigade was deployed more than 63,000 times last year. And more than 2,900 people were helped and, in some cases, rescued from life-threatening situations ”, Mikl-Leitner emphasized that this willingness to work deserves the highest recognition and respect. “And that is why I would like to thank all members of the fire service today.” Everybody knows:
“We can trust volunteer firefighters!” The governor finally asked all firefighters to continue defending our country and our compatriots: “We need you!”
