Successful revenge! The Dornbirn Bulldogs beat Bratislava Capitals 2-1 after overtime in the second leg of the double header in the ICE qualifying round.
They displace the Slovaks from their place in the sun and now have 15 points on the tally, the Slovaks are tied for second place.
The Graz99ers, who are in third place, can take the lead again tomorrow with a win against VSV. At the same time, there will be a hit in the selection round between EC KAC and EC Red Bull Salzburg (starting at 19:15 on the live ticker).
Noticing the efforts of the day before
The first third continues without any real climax. You can see the effort from yesterday’s long game on the teams. Oskar Östlund and Jared Coreau are rarely challenged. Alexander Maxa forgives the possible advantage in the 12th minute from a good position, but fails in the goalkeeper of the Capitals. The first break begins with a goalless draw.
Same game at the beginning of the second section, then the Bulldogs get more active. Andrew Yogan controls Coreau with a well-placed shot, Kai Suikkanen’s cracks take the lead three minutes before the end: After a good pass from Vitaljis Pavlovs, Anthony Luciani takes the lead – 1-0 (37./PP).
The people of Dornbirn take the momentum of the tour with them from the break. You have your opponents and objectives under control, Bratislava has little access. Only in a power play phase do the guests become truly dangerous. Goalkeeper Östlund has to work hard to keep zero when Maxime Fortier and Brett Carson fire dangerous shots.
In the 55th minute the bell rings in the Bulldogs box: Milos Bubela serves Martin Chovan, who can beat Östlund – 1: 1 (55th). After that, it comes and goes, both teams really want the decision in regular time. But like the day before, there are overtime.
Dornbirn made the decision after just 35 seconds: William Rapuzzi served Matthew Mackenzie in the back room and hit the puck against the net – 2: 1 (61st).
