Damir Canadi will be SCR Altach’s new head coach. After four years, the Vorarlberger by choice returns to the CASHPOINT Arena and inherits from Alex Pastoor.

From January 2013 to November 2016, Canadi was already working as a SCRA coach, reaching the upper house on the first full attempt and finishing sensationally third in 2014/15 and eighth in 2015/16.

Co-coach Manu Hervás accompanies Canadi

Along with Canadi, the Spanish assistant coach Manu Hervás also moves to the CASHPOINT Arena. Hervás recently attended Canadi at Atromitos Athens and has known Austrian football from a year and a half interlude as a player at FC Flyeralarm Admira.

After leaving Altach, Canadi was the head coach of SK Rapid Vienna, twice for Atromitos Athens and 1. FC Nürnberg. His second term in Greece ended in early February. The 50-year-old will lead the team’s first training session at Altach this afternoon.

Damir Canada

Christoph Längle, Managing Director: “Damir Canadi is the most successful coach in Altach club history, has close ties to the region and knows the conditions at SCR Altach like no other. Furthermore, contact has never been broken in recent years, so we are convinced that Damir is the right person to guide the ship back to calmer waters. “

Christian Möckel, Sporting Director: “Damir Canadi represents a successful job at Altach. In addition, he has been able to gain a lot of international experience and celebrate the successes of recent years. We are confident that he can give the team a further boost so that we can finally achieve our goals. “

Altach separates from Pastoor

The Vorarlbergers announced Tuesday night the immediate release of Alex Pastoor and his assistant Martin Bernhard.

Pastoor has been with Altachern since mid-March 2019, succeeding Werner Grabherr and interim coach Wolfgang Luisser. Altach was second to last at the time and the neo-coach led his team through the qualifying group to keep up and rank ninth. In 2019/20 they even reached eighth place and matchday 1 of the European League Cup play-offs, in which they finished against Austria. This season they have twelve defeats with three wins and three draws.

Third coach change of the season

Pastoor’s dismissal marked the third manager change this season. In the penultimate Admira, Damir Buric, who had already worked in the south of the city in the past, followed the surprisingly resigned Zvonimir Soldo and his interim coach Patrick Helmes in September 2020. Earlier this year, Miron Muslic succeeded Gerald Baumgartner , who was on leave on December 15, at newcomer SV Ried. Ried is 14th points ahead of Altach, so the three worst teams currently have already switched coaches.
