Three supermarket employees were attacked, threatened and robbed on Friday night while they were counting the daily solution at a Vienna-Landstrasse branch. Three masked people in scarves and hoods held the two men and their colleague under control with an iron bar and a hammer-like object, grabbed the money and initially escaped undetected.
The discount store on Landstrasser Hauptstrasse had just closed around 7 p.m. Employees had closed the branch and were busy in the office with accounting, police spokesman Marco Jammer reported. They were surprised by the thieves.
You could break free after 20 minutes
The perpetrators threatened the staff, who were forced to lie on the ground and stole their cell phones and keys. They then locked the employees in the office and fled with an amount of money that was still unknown. “After about 20 minutes, the employees were able to leave the office with a spare key and alert the police.” the speaker said they were unharmed.
The Vienna State Criminal Police Office, a branch of Zentrum-Ost, has taken over the investigation. The police will receive information at the telephone number 01/31310/62800 (LKA Zentrum-Ost, daily service). It was not clear at first how the thieves got into the branch: either they had let them lock them after all the customers had left the store, or they hadn’t just used a previously tampered side entrance to escape – the lock on this one. door had been etched. The perpetrators left employees’ cell phones in the supermarket, probably to avoid being located. They took the iron bar and the hammer with them.
According to witnesses, one of those wanted was 1.65 meters tall, wearing a black hood, a red scarf and a dark jacket over a white T-shirt. His accomplice was around six feet tall and wore a gray cloth jacket with a dark hood and a scarf, the third wore dark clothing and was also wrapped with a hood and scarf.
