In Innsbruck Tivoli, the fourth in the table of the Hpybet 2. League FC Wacker Innsbruck received the eleventh SK Vorwärts Steyr. Two teams with a long tradition put on an elegant second division match, which, however, was played very unilaterally in favor of Innsbruck. The hosts absolutely wanted to win so as not to miss the top of the table. On the other hand, Upper Austria had set itself the goal of stealing three points from the favorites at Tivoli; they want nothing to do with relegation at Steyr. In the end, the meeting with FC Wacker Innsbruck found a worthy and deserved 2-0. The trio of referees were Thomas Fröhlacher, Dr. Andreas Witschnigg and Manuel Koller from Carinthia in action.
FC Wacker Innsbruck celebrated a safe victory at home and celebrated it twice
Despite the freezing temperatures, the hosts started with fierce offensive football and set the tone from the start. But Steyr did not hide and played happily with the local team: the game was at a high level. In the 7th minute, Fabio Viteritti launched a great corner kick from the left at the near post. Michael Halbartschlager (Steyr) unfortunately spread the ball with his head into his own goal and inadvertently made it 1-0 for the hosts. Just two minutes later, Innsbruck came up with the next big opportunity. A center from the right half reached the center, where Ronivaldo lurked, but could not take advantage of this opportunity. In the 17th minute, Atsushi Zaizen danced and made his way beautifully into the opponent’s penalty area on the left. The 21-year-old Japanese did not hesitate and shot from an acute angle, but his shot landed just outside the goal. In the 22nd minute, the guests applauded, but the cheers didn’t last long. A pass worth seeing into the depths comes to Michael Drga. It snapped and suddenly appeared in the middle of the right in front of Keeper Knaller and the ball sank into the net. But the linesman had the flag raised and the goal did not count. The game was not short of highlights either: Fabio Viteritti prevailed on the right edge of the area, cheered up and walked away. His highly dangerous shot only rattled the crossbar, the score remained unchanged. A 2-0 win for the Tyrolese was up in the air at this stage, but the home team couldn’t close the bag early. With it 1-0 at half-time, the referee led the players to the locker room and allowed them to cool off with hot drinks.
SK Vorwärts Steyr also had nothing to say in the second round
From the start of the second round, the Innsbruckers proved that they owned the house. They attacked smartly and early and won the important duels in midfield. The guests did not have adequate access to the playing equipment – a long ball landed on Atsushi Zaizen – he dribbled and placed the ball in the direction of the opposing body. The ball finally landed in the visitor’s goal through the inside bar and the scoreboard at Tivoli was 2-0. But Innsbruck apparently didn’t have enough and kept pressing the tube. 57th minute of the match: After a quick counterattack by the Tyrolese, Thomas Kofler retired from a tight angle: Steyr’s goalkeeper Bernhard Staudinger was on the post and was able to seize this opportunity. Just two minutes later, the guest goalkeeper refocused, shining with a corner kick and the resulting opportunity for Markus Wostry. Wacker now acted much smarter with the 2-0 lead on the back and had some great opportunities: Ronivaldo could have made the shooting list twice and Lukas Fridrikas had a good shot off the legs too. Only once were the guests dangerous: In the 75th minute, Wacker recorded one of the rare turnovers in his ranks in preparation for the game. The guests entered the opposing penalty area, but Josef Martinović missed against Tyrolean goalkeeper Marco Knaller. Now the hosts couldn’t get the butter off the bread, they deftly kept the ball in their own ranks and in the end they deservedly won 2-0.
