In round 16 of the Typical Bundesliga, the Rapid Vienna vs. WAC was on schedule Tuesday. The Hütteldorfer celebrates you lackluster 1-0 home win and temporarily occupy the top of the table. Forward Kara scored the only goal, with “friendly support” from guest goalkeeper Kofler.
The game at Allianz Stadium was characterized by mutual respect in the opening minutes! Both sides showed a compact, structured defensive work and little risk on offense. The hosts had a preponderance of shared games. The Hütteldorfer couldn’t take advantage of it! An error in the 20th minute almost gave the game its first chance. After a completely unsuccessful kickoff from WAC goalkeeper Kofler, Schick positioned the ball in the direction of the corner flag. On the other side, Vizinger was whistled in the 25th minute by the assistant referee. A very tight and debatable decision, but not decisive! When the level of play subsequently dropped, there was a “sports wake-up call” in the 32nd minute. From the proverbial “nothing”, SK Rapid Wien took the lead. After Sprangler and Baumgartner interfered with each other, Kara got the ball, which from minute 20 throws hard but centrally to the goalkeeper. WAC goalkeeper Kofler stretches a fist skyward and fakes the ball into his own goal. The first 1-0 goal was nowhere in sight and was the last notable situation from a weak first half.
During the break, WAC coach Feldhofer reacted and replaced Schöfl and Wernitznig. The game got interesting for a few minutes. A double chance from Ritzmaier and Kara (62nd) and Vizinger (59th) were the first exclamation points! After that, both teams took another “longer break.” In the 75th minute, the WAC almost made an exclamation point and scored the tie. An overhead shot from Joveljic missed Hütteldorfer’s goal. In the final phase it was “interesting” again. In the 85th minute, WAC substitute Wernitznig slipped into excellent position in Rapid’s penalty area. It was the last situation worth mentioning. It was 1-0 for the Verdiblancos.
SK Rapid Wien celebrates a mediocre work win against a disappointing WAC. In the summer months one would speak of a “weak summer kick” or a “0-0”. Kofler’s error eventually resulted in a three for the Hütteldorfer. From the point of view of the green-whites, it was the only positive aspect of a “below-average workday”. On the other hand, it represents another setback for the WAC in the fight for a place in the championship group. The performance was definitely “expandable” again.
