KIRCHDORF DISTRICT. The application “Too Good To Go” developed in Denmark and its partner companies have declared war on food waste in 14 European countries and the United States. Kirchdorf district companies also contribute to “Too Good To Go”.
Too Good To Go’s main partners are hotels, supermarkets, restaurants, bakeries and shops. Users of the app can sign up for free and reserve surprise bags filled with groceries at partner companies. The price is always around a third of the value of the merchandise. Bags must be collected after receiving a confirmation at lunchtime or within a specified period before the store closes. If there is nothing left in the partner company, you can cancel the merchandise. The customer receives a message and the money is returned.
It is worth it for companies
After a trial period, companies pay an annual membership fee and a standard commission of a quarter of the price per bag sold to Too Good To Go. In return, the team takes care of the application, including the cashless payment. The company receives its sales at the end of the month.
Christiana Winkler: “Do something good for the environment”
Born in Micheldorfer, Christiana Winkler has worked as a sales specialist at Too Good To Go for a year: “I am introducing our concept to companies so they can work with us to help save food.” He applied for the job. She is now one of 25 employees she currently has in Vienna. “I wanted to do something good for the environment. I have always been excited about sustainability. I know that my work makes sense and that we not only draw attention to food waste, but we also do something about it. Every year a ton of food is thrown away in Austria. Our concept is a win-win situation, ”says Christiana Winkler enthusiastically.
Andrea Sturmberger: “Avoid Disposal of Fresh Produce”
One of the first partner companies in the district was Sturmberger Cafe Konditorei in Kirchdorf. “We have been with us since July 2020 because we always equip the cake showcase so that our customers can take one of our delicacies home at the end of the afternoon. We thought it was great to ‘store’ fresh produce before discarding it, “says CEO and pastry teacher Andrea Sturmberger:” We always set two ‘surprise packages’ as standard. Kerstin Hebesberger: “1,500 pieces of cheese saved”
Since the end of November, the Schlierbach Abbey cheese dairy has also been offering Too Good To Go products. “During production, it can always happen that our cheese is too light. However, there is a standard weight below which we cannot resell to retailers. We used the app to offer this cheese which turned out to be too small and otherwise faultless “, explains Kerstin Hebesberger, responsible for control and purchasing, and is proud:” We have already sold 175 bags in this way and we were able to save more than 1,500 pieces of cheese. A financial gain is not in the foreground, it is mainly about the idea of sustainability. Too Good To Go is simply a great concept against food waste.
